Canoeing on Blue Mountain Lake

The Blue Mountain Lake Boat Livery provides both canoes and kayaks for rent. Our canoes will fit three people, or two people and gear. Paddling is a great way to access the many public islands on Blue Mountain Lake. Sand beaches and beautiful islands are easily reached by boat. Many canoeists chose to throw their camping gear in the boat and spend a few nights in one of the free public campsites located on the islands of Blue Mountain Lake. We rent canoes by the half day, day, and week -- so you can spend as much time as you like exploring the pristine waters of the cleanest lake in the continental United States (rated by the EPA). Our lake connects to two other lakes: Eagle Lake and Utowana Lake. Both of these lakes are declared "Forever Wild" -- which means that no homes will be constructed and the lakes will remain forever in their natural condition. Adirondack Canoe Routes

Blue Mountain Lake is part of the Main Adirondack Canoe Route. We will happily transport your canoes to Raquette Lake Village so that you can canoe back to Blue Mountain. We also deliver to Indian Lake Villiage, Forked Lake Canoe Ramp, and any other area lake. Detailed maps are available at the Blue Mountain Lake Boat Livery, but we have provided a quick description of the route here.

Start from the Raquette Lake dock and set a course that skirts the north shore of Big Island. From there, head northeast around the tip of Long Point and then easterly into the winding Marion River. Take the Marion up to the remains of an old railroad bridge where there is a carry (distance from Raquette Lake Village to the carry: 6 miles). The 0.5 mile carry brings you to the dam near the foot of Utowana Lake. There is a lean-to on the north shore 0.5 miles beyond the dam. Canoe through Utowana, Eagle and Blue Mountain Lakes for about 7.0 miles. You will arrive in the Blue Mountain Lake Village on the east side of Blue Mountain Lake. The Boat Livery is a two story wood building on the right side of the bay. You will easily recognize us by the sailboats moored out front and the docks protruding into the water.
